Abstract
The rationale for research on the use of combinations of drugs in viral infections includes the identification of drug combinations that allow reduction in individual drug doses and possibly dose-related drug toxicity, potentiation of antiviral activity in infections due to less sensitive viruses, and prevention of the emergence of a drug-resistance. This paper reviews the studies in vitro and in animal models that have addressed these considerations with respect to influenza virus infections.
